San Francisco offers a variety of shopping that is especially suited for those who value small, independently owned neighborhood boutiques. San Francisco is divided into several neighborhoods, each with its own distinct character and unique shopping.

On Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights, for example, you'll find great shopping in small specialty food shops, designer clothing boutiques, day spas, and home design stores. There are also lots of cafes, bistros and bars, many of which offer outdoor seating and views of one of San Francisco's toniest residential districts.

The Hip Mission District
If you're interested in finding bargains or shopping for clothes that are less likely to have been mass produced, you'll want to visit the Mission District of San Francisco. The Mission has long been the center of the Latino community in San Francisco; in recent years it's also become a place where local artists and hipsters have taken up residence.

Here you'll find vintage clothing shops, thrift stores, trendy clothing boutiques, funky gift and card shops, as well as used furniture stores. If you're looking for something authentic, you'll likely find it in San Francisco's Mission District. The many taquerias surrounding the area provide another incentive to visit this historic neighborhood.

Shopping Union Square
San Francisco's Union Square probably offers the largest concentration of shopping, particularly for clothes. Union Square, near San Francisco's Financial District, is where you'll find large, luxury-brand boutiques, major department stores, art galleries, high-end jewelers, and small up-and-coming designer clothing shops.

Union Square, a park named after - and situated in - the center of the shopping district recently underwent a $25 million restoration. The park's sleek geometric shapes, comprised of both grass and granite, provide an ideal setting for a shopping break.

Whether you're shopping for high-end fashion, vintage clothes, or shoes suitable for a devout vegan, consider San Francisco as your next shopping vacation.
