Active Tourism
Packages or destinations that promote hiking, biking, walking and climbing as opposed to more relaxing pursuits.

These resorts include accommodations, all meals at all restaurants, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), landsports, watersports, nightly entertainment, transportation to & from the resort and airport, hotel tax and tips.

Eco Tourism

Educational
A vacation in which the participants' main goal is to learn, do, see, hear and taste things they may never have experienced before.

Emergency Medical Evacuation Insurance
If you're up on top of a mountain and break your leg, or if you're in the depths of the Amazon jungle and you get a fever, emergency medical evacuation coverage will pay for the cost of transporting you to safety and, in some cases, all the way home.

Experiential Vacation
Refers to vacations in which tourists are active participants rather than passively viewing of scenery. For example, rather than watch exotic fish from a glass-bottomed boat, participants get the chance to swim among the fish and experience the ocean currents.

Family-Friendly
Tourism destinations and activities that are accessible to a wide range of ages with appropriate learning opportunities at each level.

Fixed Unit, Fixed Week, and Deeded Agreement

Floating Time Ageement
Related to time-shares, this agreement stipulates that use time for a time-share property is flexible. Reservations are on a first-come basis, since all owners likely have the same option.

Fractional Ownership
Fractional Ownership consists of owning an "Undivided fractional fee-simple interest" in a specific property. In simple terms, you are buying your vacation home in partnership with other owners who share the cost with you.

Gender Neutral Tourism
Tourism destinations and activities that are not specifically geared toward a particular gender.

HOA
Acronym for Homeowners Association. One of two types of management groups that oversee time-share expenses, upkeep and future resort property, including the selection of a management company.

Interval
A period of time available for use by an owner of a timeshare, vacation club or points-based vacation program.

Non-consumptive Tourism
Tourism that leaves no footprint. The primary goal of non-consumptive tourism is to leave the surroundings "untouched" for future generations.

Weather Guarantee
Should bad weather strike the resort, guests will receive a reimbursement for the total value of the disrupted nights. In addition, a voucher for a future stay will be issued for the same number of disrupted nights good for use during the same month the following year, excluding airfare.

Out-of-Season
Non-peak travel times for a particular resort or destination. Often travel packages and airfare are significantly lower during off-peak travel times.

POA
Acronym for Property Owners Association. A POA is one of two types of management groups that usually oversee time-share expenses, upkeep and future resort property, including the selection of a management company.

Resort
A destination that includes more than just lodging. Many resorts offer packages based on your needs including family, wedding, adventure or relaxation.

Right-To-Use Plan
A common timeshare lease agreement. At its end you no longer have any rights to the property.

Sunshine Guarantee
In the event that the sun should refuse to show its face on any day during a vacation holiday, the client will receive a voucher equal to that day's value good for one year towards another vacation.

Timeshare
A fully furnished vacation accommodation that is partially owned by a number of people. Timeshares require a one-off purchase price, along with annual maintenance fees, and are purchased in perpetuity or for a predetermined number of years.

Trip Cancellation/Interruption Travel Insurance
Trip cancellation/interruption coverage will reimburse you for any nonrefundable deposits you put down on a trip or cruise if it turns out that you won't be able to go after all, or if you have to leave early. The caveat is that the cancellation has to be one of the policies' "covered reasons."

Vacation Ownership
Also known as Vacation Clubs or Point-Based Vacation Programs, owners have access to fully furnished vacation accommodations sold in a variety of forms, from weekly intervals and points-based systems.

Vacation Ownership Maintenance Fees
Yearly maintenance fees paid each year for the maintenance of the resort.

Vacation Package
A combination of hotel, flight and/or rental car for one price, usually cheaper than getting each part individually.
