San Antonio The Meeting Place San Antonio has a long history as one of the settlements of the Native Americans along the river. In 1691, Spanish missionaries arrived on the Feast of St Anthony and gave the settlement its name. Today the river winds through the business district - known as the River Walk - passes through parks and gardens, forming a pleasant heart to the city.
